Irish Religious Sisters

Throughout this website, you will find stories of the social history and Gospel journey of Irish Religious Sisters across the world. Some of these stories were featured in the photographic exhibition which was hosted across the island of Ireland and Rome, Italy. The stories of other Sisters are told here in this gallery section, which features sisters who are not included in the physical exhibition.

Below you will find the journeys of Irish Religious Sisters whose stories have been shared by others, such as family members or friends, and who have asked for their inclusion.

Columban Sisters

Early Days in China

On 15th November 1926, a group of five Columban Sisters arrived in Hanyang, China and were soon busy with language study, setting up house and responding to sick people who came to the house for treatment. Hopes and dreams of developing ministries to the poor were soon shattered, however, by the tense political situation between the warlords, nationalists and communists in Hanyang, as well as campaigns against foreigners.
